Businesses with fewer than ten employees, and those based
at home, represent a market of nearly 28 million offices,
which is projected to reach 37 million by 2002.
U.S. Small Businesses generate the third largest economy
in the world
Small businesses (firms with less than 500 employees)
represent over 99% of all employer firms and employ 52%
of all private workers.
Small businesses account for 51% of the private sector
output. They
are responsible for virtually all net new jobs through
creation of new firms, as well as expansion of existing
small businesses.
The US Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy
identifies firms with fewer than 500 employees as small.
Of the 5.4 million firms that existed in 1995, approximately
78% of them employed 10 or fewer people.
Online retail marketing is experiencing about 200% annual
growth

Although more than 50% of all small business's have access
to the Internet, only 1.4% of Internet use among small
business is directed towards e-commerce
Forrester Research Inc. estimates that by 2004 online
retail sales will be over 100 billion dollars and that
inter-company e-commerce will exceed one trillion dollars.
